Longest Motorbike Jump
Robbie Maddison's has welcomed 2008 with the longest motorcycle jump in history. The jumps (two tries) were the length of a football field (more than 300 feet).
"Conditions weren't perfect but I'm happy with the result," Maddison said in a statement.
"In rehearsal I went 350 feet (106 meters) and I knew 360 feet (109 meters) was achievable. We did all we could but the winds played a bigger factor than we planned.
"This is just the beginning," he said.
Maddison, who hails from Kiama on the New South Wales south coast, has two additional world records for the longest jump on a 125cc motorcycle - 67 meters - and the longest jump with a trick - 80 meters.
Maddison dedicated the jump to daredevil stunt rider Evel Knievel, whose family were in the audience in Las Vegas.
